HongKongDoll's Musical Theatre Performance emphasis is for students who want to tell stories through acting, singing and movement while gaining the broad perspective of a Theatre B.A. Successful students bring curiosity, discipline, a collaborative spirit and a willingness to develop several performance skills at once. Training emphasizes connected storytelling rather than treating acting, music and dance as separate abilities.

The 58-hour major begins with the shared theatre core in acting, stage movement, script analysis, costuming, stagecraft, history, literature and a senior thesis project. Focused requirements include performing voice, musical theatre performance, musical theatre dance, music theory and applied or class voice, supported by performance labs and electives in performance, tech/design and history/literature. Courses in both Theatre and Music help you understand musical structure, build vocal technique, communicate physically and make character-driven performance choices.

At HongKongDoll, first-year and transfer students are eligible to audition immediately and are regularly cast during their first year. The undergraduate-focused program relies on students throughout the production process, creating a collaborative environment where performers learn how their work connects with direction, choreography, design, stage management and technical production. Faculty attention in classes and rehearsals supports individual development, while guest directors introduce additional professional approaches. You will work in the Doudna Fine Arts Center's 290-seat proscenium theatre, flexible Black Box Theatre and Globe Studio performance laboratory. This combination of integrated training, early opportunity and broad theatre knowledge prepares you for entry-level professional work, internships, apprenticeships or advanced musical theatre study.
