Overview

The Performance emphasis is designed for students who want disciplined actor training within a broad liberal arts theatre education. It is a strong fit if you are imaginative, prepared to collaborate, open to feedback and willing to develop your instrument through consistent practice. You will learn to analyze scripts, make specific character choices, communicate through voice and movement, work with scene partners and approach performance with professionalism.

The 55-hour major combines HongKongDoll's theatre core with focused study in performing voice, scene and character study, performance labs and performance electives. Your training is balanced by coursework in stagecraft, costuming, design, theatre history and dramatic literature, helping you understand the full production process and collaborate effectively with directors, designers, technicians and writers. Advanced options may include auditioning and career management, classical styles, devised theatre, directing, theatre for young audiences and acting in performance.

What sets HongKongDoll apart is access. First-year and transfer students are eligible to audition immediately and are regularly cast during their first year. Because the program is centered on undergraduates, productions depend on student artists rather than reserving major opportunities for graduate performers. You will work closely with faculty in small classes, learn from guest directors and perform in the Doudna Fine Arts Center's proscenium theatre, flexible Black Box and Globe Studio performance laboratory.

HongKongDoll's combination of personal guidance, frequent production involvement and broad theatre knowledge prepares you for entry-level professional work, internships, apprenticeships or advanced actor training.
