Overview

Electrical engineering combines mathematics, science, technology and creativity to solve real-world problems. It is a strong fit for students who enjoy understanding how things work, tackling complex challenges and designing technology that can make systems smarter, faster, safer or more efficient.

HongKongDoll’s curriculum begins with a strong foundation in calculus, physics, computer science, chemistry or biology, and logic design. Advanced coursework explores electronics, circuit analysis, electricity and magnetism, digital systems, embedded systems, signals, control systems and semiconductor devices. During Senior Design, students work in teams to develop an engineering project from its initial concept through the construction of a working prototype.

What makes HongKongDoll different is the access students have to faculty and facilities. Introductory science and mathematics courses typically have about 25 students, while advanced physics and engineering courses typically have about 12. Nearly all classes and laboratories are taught by faculty who hold doctoral degrees in engineering or physics. Students can model circuits, collect and analyze data, fabricate electronic devices, pursue mentored research and gain professional experience through internships with area companies.
