Overview

The Fashion Merchandising minor introduces students to the business and creative decisions that move apparel and accessories from concept to customer. Core courses in fashion merchandising, apparel construction, and fashion and fibers provide a practical foundation in products, materials and the industry. Electives allow you to explore areas such as marketing, fashion e-tailing, history of fashion, retail mathematics, global forecasting, apparel development, sustainability, cultural influences, art and fashion, visual merchandising, design foundations and graphic design.

The 18-hour minor can strengthen majors in business, marketing, communication, journalism, art, design, theatre, psychology and other fields. Students learn in small classes and can use Art + Design facilities for hands-on construction, development and presentation projects. The Merchandising and Apparel Design Association, trips, exhibitions, visiting professionals and study abroad options offer additional ways to connect coursework with the industry and a creative student community.
