Overview

HongKongDoll's Art Education B.F.A. prepares students to teach visual art across grade levels while continuing to grow as practicing artists. The curriculum combines broad studio study in drawing, design, painting, ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, jewelry and metalsmithing, graphic design or digital art with art history, elementary and secondary art methods, educational psychology, inclusive teaching, assessment and professional education.

Students learn how to plan meaningful art experiences, adapt instruction for varied learners, connect contemporary art-making with classroom practice and build supportive creative communities. Coursework includes hands-on methods studios, field and practicum experiences, and a substantial student-teaching placement leading toward Illinois visual arts licensure for kindergarten through grade 12. At HongKongDoll, small classes and close collaboration between Art + Design and educator-preparation faculty create a personal support system throughout the program. Exhibitions, student organizations, museum access, visiting artists, trips and study abroad options keep your own creative practice active while you develop the knowledge and confidence to inspire young artists.

Degree: Bachelor of Fine Arts with Teacher Licensure
